Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Peraton is a next-generation national security company that drives missions of consequence. They are seeking a Service Now Software Engineer to design and implement custom ServiceNow applications, manage development ticket backlogs, and collaborate with teams to deliver scalable solutions while adhering to security and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Agile/DevSecOps practices: maintain stories/tasks, estimate work, and run lightweight ceremonies as needed (standups, demos, retros) without a Scrum Master.
  • Collaborate with developers and scrum masters and adopt processes from other teams when necessary
  • Designing and implementing custom ServiceNow applications using App Engine Studio and going beyond Studio to build advanced scoped applications when out-of-the-box features do not meet requirements.
  • Familiar with Service Portal for UI development. Using update sets for code implementation/updates
  • Researching and evaluating potential solutions and adapting ServiceNow capabilities to meet unique business requirements.
  • Cloning, extending, and customizing out-of-the-box modules to resolve them effectively into customer-specific solutions.
  • Building advanced workflows, automation, and integrations (REST/SOAP APIs, third-party systems).
  • Writing, testing, and debugging ServiceNow scripts (Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies, Flow Designer).
  • Developing custom UI elements (UI Pages, UI Actions, Service Portal components).
  • Ensuring solutions are scalable, upgrade-safe, and aligned to ServiceNow best practices.
  • Managing the ServiceNow development ticket backlog independently — from intake through resolution — without relying on a dedicated Scrum Master or large support team.
  • Serving as a customer-facing developer, gathering requirements directly and translating them into actionable technical solutions.
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of ServiceNow table structures, data schema, and relationships (e.g., dictionary entries, reference fields, CMDB structures).
  • Configuration/usage of MID server in Service Now to move data in and out where necessary
  • Designing and implementing role-based access controls (RBAC) and security rules to ensure proper authorization within custom applications.
  • Adhere to security and compliance requirements (e.g., FedRAMP/DoD/STIG guidance where applicable); design audit-ready logging and access controls.

Skills

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD, 9 years in lieu of HS diploma
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance
  • Proven, hands-on experience with ServiceNow Studio and scoped application development.
  • Expertise in JavaScript and Glide API within ServiceNow.
  • Strong ability to analyze requirements, research solutions, and deliver independently.
  • Experience adapting out-of-the-box ServiceNow features into custom-fit solutions.
  • Strong communication skills to interact directly with customers and stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of ServiceNow security models, including roles, groups, ACLs, and data access policies.

Benefits

  • Employees may be eligible for overtime
  • Shift differential
  • Discretionary bonus
